Thank you for your interest in the post of Deputy Director, Children and Families at Portsmouth City Council.

We are fortunate in Portsmouth to have a highly motivated Children and Families service which works closely with a wide range of partners in a compact city, where imagination and innovation are encouraged. We were delighted that the dedication and skill of our workforce was recognised by Ofsted in our ILACS inspection in 2018 which found us "Good" across the board. I was particularly heartened by Ofsted's reflection that "Children are at the heart of social work practice".

We are determined to build on our strengths and aim for "Outstanding" in our next inspection. To achieve that we need a leader for the service who is looking to develop cutting edge practice, driven by a strong moral mission to improve life chances for children.  We have an opportunity now in Portsmouth to build on our recognised strengths, not least our deep and resilient multi agency relationships, to push the boundaries and find even better ways to support families and children, focusing all the time on helping them achieve the best possible outcomes. Over Autumn 2018 we have developed an outline strategy through which we are determined to build further on our successful development of targeted early help; develop and implement a family safeguarding and reunification process working with our colleagues in adult services; and diversify and transform our care offer. We also have new opportunities opening up for even closer joint working with NHS commissioners as the Directorate takes on the responsibility for children's health commissioning reporting to the CCG Board.

This is an exciting time for the city. If you have a track record of driving improvement for children, young people and families and are keen to exercise and develop your leadership in an empowering, supportive environment, we want to hear from you.

If you would like to know more please get in touch with our executive search agency GatenbySanderson, Zoe Thompson on 07841 088022 to discuss the post further and/or arrange a call with me. I look forward to your application.
